The Beginning: A Small Hat Idea
Back in 2014, I never imagined I’d be where I am today. What started as a small hat idea has grown into a flourishing business that has not just supported my family but also empowered artisans in Ecuador & Thailand and connected cultures through unique handcrafted accessories.
The Heart of the Journey: Artisan Empowerment
When I started developing the first products, I realized that the artisans would become the heart of this entrepreneurial journey. I learned that entrepreneurship could be a powerful tool for preserving traditional craftsmanship, providing sustainable regular income to artisans and bridging cultural gaps through commerce.
Learning and Growing: The Early Years
The first few years were a whirlwind of learning. I quickly realized that success wasn’t just about having a great product but solving problems continuously. Importing the hats from Ecuador was like navigating a complex maze; building lasting relationships with artisans was another challenge, and selling, promoting and creating a brand that told a story was a daily aspiration.
Balancing Act: Entrepreneurship and Motherhood
But perhaps the most challenging aspect of MONPANAMA was finding a balance as a mom and as an entrepreneur. Flexible working hours are great, but learning to be present both at home and in business has been a true balancing act. Here, I must say that my husband has been really supportive and allowed me throughout the years to pursue my dreams.
Navigating Challenges: The COVID-19 Pivot
When Coivd hit, I realized that the market is constantly changing and I needed to adapt and look for new opportunities. During that time, I put lots of effort into product development and created a line of products I really love. Back then, Thailand was closed and many artisans were happy to do samples for me and weren’t in a rush for orders. This was also the time my showroom got really busy and lots of amazing reviews came along.
Gratitude and Reflection
Today I’m really grateful for the opportunity I had to create something meaningful, the incredible network of artisans, friends, customers, and supporters around me and the daily inspiration which comes from something I have created with my hands.
