Filmed almost entirely in Phuket, the 2024 Netflix blockbuster Mother of the Bride joins a league of Hollywood films that have sparked global excitement about Thailand as a travel destination. But even more thrilling than that to us here at MonPanama is the fact that the title character of this rom-com, played by 1980s icon Brooke Shields, carries one of our original designs on the screen: the Audrey bag.

The Audrey is one of these woven water hyacinth masterpieces. Highlighting the natural golden hue of sun-dried seagrass and the admirable braiding and weaving techniques of Thai artisans, the bag is a statement within itself, elevated minimally by leather details.
Brooke Shields’ Mother of the Bride character, Lana, sports the golden tassel variation of the Audrey bag as a clutch (sans strap) to dinner on the first night of the wedding trip—a sophisticated choice. During the day, the leather straps can easily be reattached for both functionality and a more appropriate casual style. This versatility also saves you the hassle of having to choose and pack multiple bag options for one beach getaway. The Audrey was designed with different occasions in mind.
